Sherwood Hills A
Located in the “Historical Capital of the Philippines” the province of Cavite, is one of the best golf courses on the world, the Sherwood Hills Golf Club. This unique 7,265 yard course is ranked as 85th by the “Golf Digest’s 100 Best Courses Outside the United States” in the year 2007- 2008 and the course was also graded as 85 out of 100 by the “Rolex World’s Top 1000 Golf Courses” in the year 2011-2012.
This golf course is designed by Jack William “The Golden Bear” Nicklaus, a highly regarded American professional golfer. Sherwood Hills golf course is known to be one of Nicklaus’ most unique courses in the world. Clubs designed by Nicklaus are typically trademarked with wide fairways and big greens. However, he designed this course to be a much greater challenge. Tee shots across water hazards and fairways lined with cogon grass whose leaves are about two centimetres wide near the base of the plant and narrows to a sharp point at the top. Complete accuracy is needed to ensure the players to score well at this course.
Sherwood Hills Golf Club is built on a natural flowing land. The design of the course is often described as inland links because of the hard running fairways and open-fronted greens. What makes the 18-hole golf course challenging is that, Nicklaus’ course trademark is still evident with the wide fairways throughout. However, the wider the fairways are laid out, the wider the hazards and bunkers are laid just beside it. Sherwood Hills’ greens are generally small and surrounded by the good use of sand.
